British writer/director Michael J. Bassett (Deathwatch, Wilderness) was invited to the 28th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival to introduce his latest film Solomon Kane to Belgian audiences.
Solomon Kane is a character created by American writer Robert E. Howard (1906 – 1936), who is most known for his stories in the swords & sorcery genre. To this date Conan The Cimmerian still remains the most famous fictional character from Howard‘s universe, with two movie adaptations having introduced his adventures to larger audiences: Conan The Barbarian (1982) and its sequel Conan The Destroyer (1984), both starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan.
Over the last three years, Michael J. Bassett spent adapting the Solomon Kane character for the silver screen in a new tale of dark fantasy.
The 10th of April 2010, Brussels, Belgium. A comfortable little set. A relaxed atmosphere. An interview with Mr. Bassett, explaining the genesis of the film and the nature of Kane.
