It’s the stuff that dreams are made of.

Teenagers Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp), Tina Gray (Amanda Wyss), Glen Lantz (Johnny Depp), Rod Lane (Nick Corri) and others are having bad dreams. When they compare their dreams, they find that there’s a creepy guy – who turns out to be Fred Krueger (Robert Englund) – in all of their dreams. Their parents get cagey when they start asking questions and, when the deaths start, it’s clear that something is horribly, horribly wrong….

An overlooked early 80′s horror gem

Sometimes films will charm you right off the bat. Sometimes you’ll enjoy them only to later wonder what the hell you were thinking. And sometimes they appeal more to you the more you see them. This is the case for me with writer/director Jack Sholder‘s 1982 film Alone in the Dark. (By the way, confusing it with the 2005 video game adaptation would be doing it a real disservice).

Barbed wire will keep them fenced in.

A serial killer is stalking boys and girls in Coopers Bay, somewhere along the Australian coast. Other than its location – which, aside from accents and steering wheels is indistinguishable from 80s Southern California – this is really just a mostly-routine slasher with all the requisite skin, violence, and loopiness that makes them so beloved by teens and adults who’ve come to appreciate – or deprecate – them for their excesses….

If only every slasher film had a stone mill saw at its disposal.

A boarding school is plagued by grisly murders. Cult director Jess Franco, with his inimitable ways of poor or artistic taste – you be the judge of that – gives us his take on the late 70′s/early 80′s whodunit slasher format.

On top of Old Smokey, all covered with cheese, Thom Keith made a movie, with not enough sleaze.

We open with a bunch of sorority girls (including Savannah, Suzanne Ager, and Michelle Bauer) showering and doing other lovely things, but that quickly ends as Professor Hamilton (Vincent Van Patten), his student girlfriend Jamie (Betsy Russell) and some other girls whose names I never bothered learning head out to a field trip into the wilderness to meet as many clichés as possible….
