J Luis;

Just wanted to say, great review for one of my favorite Cronenberg films. Sadly, I think this one is often overshadowed by many of his other films, and it deserves more recognition.

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words! i agree, his' earlier work (and his more recent one, say, after "Spider") tends to overshadow it. "M. Butterfly" isanother of his that I find overshadowed, have you seen it?

Sadly, no, I haven't seen M. Butterfly. I hear it's fantastic, though. I will admit to being a fan of Fast Company, a drag-racing film he did waaaay back in the 70s. It's very unlike any of this other films, but it's still interesting.

I thought of "Spider" as a superbly depressing pearl of a movie.

I catched "M. Butterfly" on TV not too long ago, but sadly missed a big chunk of the first part of it. Normally I would refuse to watch a movie that way, and just flip the channel. But hey, this was one Cronenberg I had not seen yet. Sadly, I couldn't really get into it (my mistake — shouldn't have watched the rest of it). It looked like a rather a-typical Cronenberg film, except for the ending, which was pretty damn heavy (in all its portraying beauty). Unfortunately I have some misgivings towards men who dress up like women (not that I judge their personality, it's just the way they look that makes me feel… awkward). So I was left with a sort of sour aftertaste after the movie ended. I wasn't really in favor of that aspect.

Fast Company sounds really interesting. It sort of reminds me of Jack Hill's Pit Stop, the way it stands out as being unlike anything else from his filmography. I saw Hill's Pit Stop earlier this year in a theatre. It's well worth checking out. Sid Haig is in it (of course Wink)
