Few filmmakers have a style as clearly defined as Canadian director David Cronenberg, whose career has been developed on a constantly evolving path moving from the themes of extreme physical horror of his early years (which culminate in the awesome remake of “The Fly” in 1986) to the subtler, psychologically oriented (though no less disturbing) themes of his recent work. Like a trip from the outer body horror to the inner one, the one of the mind.

After Jim Schmidt (Douglas Barr) dies in a tractor accident – it rolls over him even though he told his wife, Martha (Maren Jensen), that he’d removed the wheels – things get weird. Since Jim was born into a religious culture called the ‘Hittites’ that are like a jerkoff branch of the Amish, they keep annoying his widow for unknown reasons. There’s a lot of talk about young Faith Stohler (Lisa Hartman) being the messenger of the incubus, or maybe it’s someone else, or maybe not….

Because of a close encounter with professional paranoid crazy lady Elvira Parker (Anne Ramsey) Paul’s life takes an unfortunate turn. Eventually, Paul’s robot BB (annoyingly voiced by Charles Fleischer) and Samantha get a little closer together than anyone could have wished….

Naturally, there’s also a princess held captive which the mighty Deathstalker has to save.
