I am a girl, just like the girl, who married dear old dad.

Six young people sign up to participate in a reality TV show about fear called, imaginatively enough, ‘Are You Scared?’. The thing is, the show is just a cover for a deformed maniac (Brent Fidler) to unleash Saw-like nonsense upon youngish people. One contestant in particular, however, seems to have annoyed the maniac, meaning that he gives her his special, undivided attention….

On top of Old Smokey, all covered with cheese, Thom Keith made a movie, with not enough sleaze.

We open with a bunch of sorority girls (including Savannah, Suzanne Ager, and Michelle Bauer) showering and doing other lovely things, but that quickly ends as Professor Hamilton (Vincent Van Patten), his student girlfriend Jamie (Betsy Russell) and some other girls whose names I never bothered learning head out to a field trip into the wilderness to meet as many clichés as possible….

Few filmmakers have a style as clearly defined as Canadian director David Cronenberg, whose career has been developed on a constantly evolving path moving from the themes of extreme physical horror of his early years (which culminate in the awesome remake of “The Fly” in 1986) to the subtler, psychologically oriented (though no less disturbing) themes of his recent work. Like a trip from the outer body horror to the inner one, the one of the mind.

In the early 90s, South African director Richard Stanley was a young director with a short but promising career directing music videos and documentaries. After finishing his first feature length film, the horror and sci-fi hybrid “Hardware” in 1990, Stanley started working on his dream project: a horror film very loosely based on the Nhadiep, a Namibian mythical serial killer.
